Running for Jai
This weekend is the HBF Run for a Reason and a group of Santa Maria staff will be running the 12 kilometres. Their reason is Jai!
Jai Schubert was born in 2014, with a condition called Bethlem Myopathy. It is a rare congenital muscular dystrophy, which affects muscle growth mainly in his arms and legs, meaning he struggles with simple tasks such as walking, running, going up and down stairs and getting up from a sitting position. It also results in frequent falls. There is no cure, and little is known about the condition.
Jai is an amazing little boy who takes everything life has thrown at him in his stride. He shows a huge amount of determination and resilience and wins over the hearts of everyone he meets. Jai will need extra support, treatment and equipment for the rest of his life.
Jai’s mum, Julie (a staff member at the College, currently on maternity leave), and Jai’s dad, Grant, do a lot for the community. In last year’s event, they raised over $10,000, running for Rocky Bay, an organisation that helps children with disabilities. The family are always thinking of others, so staff at the College wanted to show their support for the family and run for Jai.
If you would like to make a donation to help out Jai please go the link below. All donations big or small will be gratefully accepted. https://www.gofundme.com/running-for-jai
