Business Management & Enterprise

Tell us a little bit about what you studied in Business Management and Enterprise (BME)?

During BME in Year 12, we extended our knowledge of global business by studying aspects such as innovation, technology, free trade agreements and diversity. This allowed us to develop a good understanding of fundamental business strategies and structures while dealing and communicating with overseas businesses.

You obviously have a passion for this subject, what interested you the most?

Growing up, I always wanted to start my own business and direct it in the future. I love the idea of being my own boss, so I thought choosing business management and enterprise would allow me to develop a knowledge of business and the different types of structures, management styles, legal requirements and ethics to make start up easier.

What strategies did you use to prepare for your exam?

Leading up to exams I would redo my past assessments, mainly questions I didn’t quite get full marks for or understand. I also asked my teacher for past tests, questions and help with anything that wasn’t quite clear. I found working with a group of people and discussing the answers to questions also very helpful and this allowed me to learn the different ways people interpret the questions asked.

What was the most challenging part of the course?

The most challenging part was the similarities between certain topics, as many of them related to each other yet needed to be answered differently. This is when having clearly titled and separated notes helped me to clearly see what elements were involved in certain topics and which weren’t.

What are your plans for this year?

I will be studying a double degree in Law and Commerce at Curtin University, to further develop my skills of business and legal framework. I’m also hoping to receive an internship in the second part of this year.

What is one piece of advice you would like to share with students studying Business Management and Enterprise?

My advice for students studying business management and enterprise is to make sure you read the questions carefully during tests/exams and only answer what the question is asking. It is easy to add extra information into questions hoping to get full marks, but it won’t apply if it is not what the question is asking.LILIANA MORENO
Applied Information Technology

Tell us a little bit about what you studied in Applied Information Technology?

In this subject, you study many different topics to do with information technology including computer hardware, design concepts, networks, managing data and many more. Projects are a large part of the subject as well, which allow you to apply what you have learnt to the digital solution you are creating.

You obviously have a passion for this subject what interested you the most?

What interested me the most was the design side to AIT. Many of the projects we completed were about applying our knowledge of the subject to create digital solutions such as websites, graphics, infomercials and interactive PDFs which were fun to make and allowed me to express my creativity.

What strategies did you use to prepare for your exam?

I am a very visual learner so when I was studying for exams and tests I liked to write the information into different boxes using different coloured pens. I also used mind maps, drew diagrams and used Venn diagrams to find similarities between the different topics. I would then complete a practice test or exam and go over any information that I was struggling with.

What was the most challenging part of the course?

The most challenging part of the course is that it is quite a content-heavy subject and I did find myself sometimes falling behind. It was important that after school each day I would spend time finishing my notes from that day and only picking out the information that I thought was important so my notes were succinct.

What are your plans for this year?

I will be studying a Bachelor in Creative Media majoring in Graphic Design at Murdoch University.

What is one piece of advice that you would like to share with students studying Applied Information Technology?

The projects given in AIT are always quite big and take time to complete. My advice is to work on a project each night, even if you only spend 10-15 minutes on it, so that it is not left to a few days before the due date.HANNAH FALLER
Religion & Life

Tell us a little bit about what you studied in Religion and Life?

In Year 12 we were looking at the role of religion in society including the Catholic Church’s response to asylum seekers and indigenous issues in Australia. We also studied the development of the Church historically such as Vatican II.

You obviously have a passion for this subject, what interested you the most?

I liked that it relates to such a wide range of issues in our own society. It also helped me with my other subjects. For example, learning about the role of the Catholic Church in Nazi Germany was useful in understanding the topics we were looking at in Literature and History.

What strategies did you use to prepare for your exam?

I kept on top of my notes throughout the year to make revision before the exam easier. I’m a visual learner so I found mind mapping useful. I also wrote practice essays to prepare for that section of the exam.

What was the most challenging part of the course?

There was a lot of content to learn, so sometimes it was a challenge to keep up with it all.

What are your plans for this year?

I will be studying Physiotherapy at The University of Notre Dame.

What is one piece of advice that you would like to share with students studying Religion and Life?

This is a subject that I didn’t always feel confident about so don’t worry if you are finding it hard. Just keep working at it and ask for help if you feel like you are falling behind.
