World Oceans Day
On World Oceans Day, people around our blue planet celebrate and honour the ocean, which connects us all. Working together, we can and will protect our shared ocean. Join this growing global celebration on 8 June!
In celebration of World Oceans Day, two of our Year 10 Eco Sisters, Jade Destremau and Moya Lyne, were invited to attend a student conference at Murdoch University last Friday.
The day was filled with a broad range of activities and lectures, mostly centred around humans and their impact on the ocean. During the conference, they were also able to test-drive the latest marine rovers to see first-hand just how much plastic ends up in our oceans and on our beaches and why beach clean-ups are vital in the efforts to clean our oceans.
The highlight of the day was definitely getting to examine Murdoch’s great array of perfectly preserved specimens, some of which are now sadly extinct. It was a great opportunity and a fun day.
“Attending the World Oceans Day conference at Murdoch was extremely informative and interesting. There were students from a lot of schools from all over the state, and I feel lucky to have been able to attend,” said Jade.
