Year 10 Outdoor Ed Expedition
Rain, hail and wind didn’t stop our intrepid Year 10 Outdoor Education girls from an exciting four-day expedition last week.
The class returned on Friday after another very successful and rewarding adventure for the girls. The students hiked to and from different locations, setting up camp at various campsites. The girls also spent half a day abseiling into and prusiking out of Brides Cave! The feedback we received regarding our girls’ behaviour and enthusiasm from the Explorus gang was extremely positive, which is always so fantastic to hear.
Each group hiked between 36 and 38 kms over four days, with 16 – 20kg packs on their backs. The girls planned, budgeted for and purchased all their meals for the trip and carried all of it with them, as well as their tents, trangias, fuel, clothing, sleeping gear, water, group items and all of their accumulating rubbish!
This expedition provided perfect opportunities for our girls to step out of their comfort zone and demonstrate resilience during challenging conditions and activities. The students were also given opportunities to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have developed in class time, in a stunning natural setting. The staff were very proud to witness the girls developing key life skills such as communication, problem solving, teamwork, leadership and perseverance.
