Nurturing Spiritual Growth and Social Awareness at Santa Maria College
At Santa Maria College, a Catholic girls’ school, our focus is on nurturing our students’ spiritual growth, social awareness, and leadership skills through a comprehensive Faith Program, which includes religious education as a core component of the curriculum. This program encompasses weekly Mass and liturgical celebrations, community engagement, co-curricular service, retreats and reflections, service through leadership, theme days, immersion programs, and the College Gifting Program.
Religious Education is a core subject and a fundamental part of our students’ learning experience, with courses designed to deepen their understanding of their faith and its relevance in their lives. The religious education curriculum is as follows:
- Years 5 – 10: Mandated CEWA (Catholic Education Western Australia) Curriculum
- Years 11 & 12: SCASA (School Curriculum and Standards Authority) ATAR & General Courses
Our students are encouraged to participate actively in their faith journey and contribute positively to the world around them. By engaging with various initiatives, they develop a strong sense of empathy, compassion, and social responsibility, which empowers them to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
Through our partnerships with numerous organisations, we provide opportunities for students to engage with the broader community and address pressing social issues such as poverty, homelessness, and environmental conservation. Students also gain firsthand experience of the challenges faced by communities in need through our immersion programs, fostering cultural understanding and a deeper commitment to social justice
Our College Gifting Program, held throughout the school year, teaches students the importance of generosity and compassion, giving them the opportunity to support various charitable organisations by donating items or funds. This initiative, along with our theme days and immersion programs, helps nurture students’ spiritual growth, social awareness, and leadership skills.
The Student Leadership Council for Years 6 – 12 offers students the chance to develop their leadership abilities, collaborate with their peers, and contribute to the school’s decision-making processes. By participating in the Council, students learn valuable communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, all while making a positive impact on the school community.
At Santa Maria, we strive to create an environment that fosters spiritual growth, social awareness, and leadership development. Through our comprehensive Faith Program, including our core religious education curriculum, we aim to empower our students to become compassionate, responsible citizens who make a positive impact on the world around them.
