Oh The Places You Will Go: VR in the Classroom

Want to swim with sharks, or visit the Louvre in Paris, spend an hour in Venice? What about a visit to the jungle to see wild animals up close? Well, these are all things our girls can do without leaving the College. Something, that not long ago would have been impossible.

Virtual Reality or VR is an engaging medium that allows students to travel to places all over the world without leaving the classroom. You know when a VR lesson is on as the library is filled with excitement!

This week, the library hosted Mrs Hansen’s Year 5 class for some virtual reality fun! We looked at animal adaptations – the shark footage certainly kept us on our toes!

Rather than viewing an image in a textbook – students are taken straight there! Our Year 5s were on an African safari with lions and then got to see monkeys in a Brazilian Rainforest, just like that!

Some of the benefits of virtual reality is that learning is enhanced because students are completely immersed in the experience, it’s an active rather than passive experience.
