Olivia Goes Above and Beyond
As part of the College Service Program, students are required to complete a minimum number of service hours each year. However, there are always girls who go above and beyond these required hours. Year 8 student Olivia Fuller is one such student.
Olivia showed great initiative when she packed care packages for the organisation Homelessness We Care WA. The packages contained toiletries such as shampoo, toothpaste, wipes, and deodorant. Whilst it took 16 hours to complete, Olivia said she was happy to do this activity “I was happy to help the more vulnerable people in our society and give them some basic things that will help them live a bit more comfortably on the streets.”
Olivia enjoys helping others and feels a sense of worth in being generous. She found this activity to be a rewarding experience as it made her feel empathetic towards homeless people and made her reflect on her own life privileges.
Olivia encourages others to participate in more service hours than the bare minimum, to be creative in ways they can help others, and to realise that a small gesture can have a large impact on those who are struggling.
