Performing with Passion – Music Eisteddfod Inspires and Unites

Over the weekend, Santa Maria College came alive with the sound of music as 139 students from Years 5 to 12 took to the stage for the annual Music Eisteddfod, in a day-long celebration of performance and talent. Across seven sessions, families and friends filled every seat, showing incredible support for our young musicians.

The event showcased an impressive variety of instruments and styles, from drums, woodwind, brass and strings, to guitar, vocals, duets and solos. The art of musical performance is a skill that requires regular practice to gain the self-confidence required to deliver one’s best under pressure.  Each performance was a testament to the dedication, courage and passion of our students, who continue to embrace the joy of music-making.

Music Captain, Tess Kinsella, shared, “I was lucky to witness a number of the performances on Sunday: whether it was a Year 5 performing for the first time or a Year 12 completing their final eisteddfod, the dedication, preparation, and hard work truly shone through in all the performances.” She added, “Whilst I still get nervous about performing, it has become a great passion of mine and programs like this have proved invaluable in harnessing that fear into excitement.”

Encouragement and Recognition

Every student received feedback from adjudicators and a certificate to recognise their efforts. This personalised encouragement ensures that each performer not only grows in skill but also gains confidence for future performances.

Head of Music, Paul Kinsella shared, “There were so many wonderful musical moments, but what really shone through was the warm and enthusiastic support that each audience exhibited throughout the course of the day.” He said, “There was a sense of a shared experience parents, family, and friends were feeling that resulted in such an encouraging atmosphere for the performers and helped them to perform at their best.”

Events like these remind us of the power of music to bring people together and the importance of nurturing creativity and confidence in every student. Congratulations to all our performers. Your talent and hard work made the day unforgettable!
