Playgroup Comes to Santa Maria

The Children Family and Community (CFC) course looks at contemporary family issues and systems which support children and families. As part of their course this week, the Year 12 class ran a playgroup.

Year 12 student Jorja Reeve tells us about the experience below.

We got the opportunity to put our CFC playgroup task into action on Wednesday. We created activities for young children aged 1 – 5 years old, which were designed to be suitable for all development domains of a child.

We had to base our activity around Piaget, Erikson, and Vygotsky’s developmental and psychological theories. We were fortunate to be able to do activities with the children of staff members.

Putting the theories into action and seeing how children were all at different physical and mental stages was a very rewarding experience and helped us to understand the theories in more detail. We quickly learned that all the children were very curious and understood that they might not do exactly what we planned, but that was all part of the experience.

Overall, the experience was very successful, and we all had so much fun playing and learning with the children.
