Reading Is an Adventure – Celebrating Book Week
Our library came alive with adventure during Book Week, as we celebrated the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) theme, “Reading is an Adventure”. The theme reminded us that every book holds the power to transport us beyond the everyday, whether that is travelling through time, exploring unknown lands, or stepping into the heart of someone else’s experiences.
Reading Matters
In today’s busy, screen-filled world, the chance to slow down and read for pleasure is more valuable than ever. When students select stories that spark their curiosity, excitement, or laughter, they build a personal connection with reading that lasts a lifetime. Research continues to show that regular reading not only boosts academic success but also strengthens empathy, lowers stress, and helps students explore who they are and who they might become.
Stories that Inspire
This year’s CBCA shortlisted books captured imaginations with brave heroes, magical quests, real-life triumphs and moving friendships. Each one proved that stories are not just words on a page, but stepping stones to unforgettable adventures, many of which are waiting on the shelves of our very own library.
Celebrating Book Week Together
Our Book Week celebrations were full of energy and creativity. Students enjoyed a special author visit from Sean Avery, tested their knowledge with competitions on Vivi and SEQTA, and had plenty of fun with the ever-popular Guess the Book Stack challenge, while during Book Club, students received a passport to log their reading adventures.
Reflecting on the week, Amanda Crossley, Head of Library, shared: “A great book can take you anywhere, and often, the greatest journeys start with the turn of a page.” It is a reminder that in our school library, adventure is always just a book away.
