Reflection Days – A Journey of Faith, Identity and Growth
In a world that rarely slows down, Reflection Days provide students with dedicated time to think deeply about their identity, faith, relationships and purpose.
Our Years 7, 8 and 11 students took part in their Reflection Days this week, facilitated by Dave Jorna from Project Hatch.
These experiences are carefully designed to support students at different stages of their personal, spiritual and emotional development. Through engaging activities, meaningful discussions and moments of quiet reflection, students are encouraged to deepen their understanding of themselves, their relationships and their faith.
From exploring their unique gifts and values to exploring leadership through service, each Reflection Day offers students the opportunity to pause, reflect and grow.
Year 7: Who Am I?
The Year 7 Reflection Day invited students to explore one of life’s most important questions: Who am I? Students reflected on their unique strengths, values and gifts while considering the people who inspire them and the kind of person they want to become. The day encouraged students to recognise their own worth, build positive relationships and understand how everyday choices help shape their character. Through reflection and discussion, students were challenged to live authentically and embrace the fullness of life that God calls them to.
Year 8: The Real Gift
Building on the foundations established in Year 7, Year 8 students explored the theme The Real Gift. The day focused on recognising the unique giftedness within themselves and others. Students were encouraged to identify their personal strengths, develop resilience and appreciate the positive influence they can have on those around them. Through collaborative activities and opportunities to celebrate one another, students discovered the importance of bringing out the best in themselves and in others, recognising the sacredness and dignity that exists within every person.
Year 11: Servant Leadership
The Year 11 Reflection Day focused on the theme of Servant Leadership. Students explored the belief that every person is made in the image and likeness of God and is worthy of dignity, respect and belonging. Through discussions, activities and reflection, students considered the influence they have on others and how leadership is demonstrated through service. Inspired by examples such as Mother Teresa, they examined how small acts of kindness, encouragement and service can create meaningful change within their school community and beyond.
Growing in Faith and Purpose
Reflection Days are an important part of the Santa Maria experience. They provide students with the space to pause, connect with others and engage in meaningful conversations about identity, purpose, leadership and faith.
Most importantly, these days remind our students that they are valued, gifted and capable of making a positive difference in the lives of others. As they progress through their school journey, Reflection Days help nurture the confidence, compassion and sense of purpose that will guide them well beyond their years at Santa Maria College.
