Revealed – A Celebration of Courage and Creativity
There was a sense of magic in the air as the Santa Maria College community gathered for the Year 12 Graduation Art Show, a night that truly lived up to its name, Revealed.
The theme was chosen by the students to reflect their journey as artists. It symbolised the uncovering of hidden layers, the bravery in sharing personal stories, and the growth that comes from creative exploration. In a thoughtful touch, guests were invited to wear black so that the students, dressed in colour and creativity, would quite literally shine.
Shining Through Story and Skill
The exhibition featured the work of 35 talented Year 12 students across ATAR Visual Art, General Art, Design and Materials Design & Technology (MDT). Each student was recognised on the night for their dedication, with personal acknowledgements and small gifts that honoured their contribution.
The diversity of the artworks was extraordinary. From bold digital designs to delicate illustrations and emotionally charged installations, every piece offered a window into the mind and heart of its creator. Student speeches added depth, sharing the stories behind their work and the challenges overcome.
Celebrating Excellence
A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the Principal’s Acquisition Prize, presented by Jennifer Oaten. This year’s recipient was Aeva, with her stunning artwork In all Timelines, You. Aeva’s work pays tribute to the strength of friendship, drawing inspiration from renaissance and rococo portraiture. The painting captures her closest friends in regal style, asking viewers to reflect on the idea: “Are friendships merely coincidences, or written into fates?” It is a question that lingered in the minds of many.
Reflecting on the exhibition, Jennifer Oaten shared,
“I am in awe of the talent, the perseverance, and the way the girls supported each other. It was a privilege to watch the pieces evolve each day, knowing how many hours of dedication went into each one. The attention to detail and originality was truly inspiring.”
A True Community Effort
Lesley Nation, Head of Visual Art, summed up the spirit of the evening beautifully.
“The event was a true celebration of creativity, resilience and community. Thanks to the tireless work of the Art and MDT staff, along with the dedication of our technicians, the night ran seamlessly. Families, staff and friends came together to support the students, making it a memorable send-off for the graduating class.”
In every brushstroke, sculpture and design, the Mercy value of Excellence was evident, not only in the finished pieces, but in the thought, effort and courage it took to share them.
