Robocup State Champions for the Third Year
Every year, students from primary and secondary schools across Western Australia design, build, and code their own robots. Santa Maria students are among them. The robots are put to the test and put through incredible challenges at the annual Robocup Competition, one of the state’s longest-running robotics competitions. The competition was held at Curtin University last weekend and hosted by Scitech.
The tournament is designed to teach students the real-world applications of robotics by programming their robots to dance, play soccer or rescue a stranded can.
Sisters, Sophia (Year 9) and Abigail Marra (Year 8) entered the Experienced Performance division, programming eight EV3 robots to perform under the theme of Winnie the Pooh. The girls have spent the last six months coding, and designing their robots in their own time, ready for the competition.Â
The girls’ performance was outstanding and they came first, winning the title for Santa Maria College for the third year in a row.Â
