Rock Your Socks Off – A Night of Talent

There are school concerts… and then there’s Rock Your Socks Off. On Friday night, the Santa Maria College community came together for an electrifying evening of music, talent and pure joy. It was the result of weeks of dedication, teamwork and creativity.
With over 550 people in the audience, the Hall pulsed with excitement from the first note. Ten student bands, made up of musicians from Years 7–12, took to the stage, each one bringing their own unique energy and sound.
A First for the Year 7s
This year marked a special milestone, the debut of our Year 7 bands. And what a debut it was! Their performances were full of heart and enthusiasm, showing just how capable and courageous our newest students are. They might be the youngest, but they set the bar high.
From Disco to Pop – Something for Everyone
The setlist had it all, from 70s disco throwbacks to today’s biggest pop hits. Whether you were singing along or tapping your foot, there was no shortage of feel-good moments. Every band brought their own style, and the variety kept the crowd buzzing.
Year 8 musician Isla loved performing at Rock Ya Socks Off, “It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. From the incredible songs played to the lively atmosphere that had everyone engaged, it was truly a fantastic moment to be up on a real stage performing live for such an energetic and cheerful crowd.”

Year 12s Close with a Bang
The spotlight belonged to the Year 12 Band in the final act. Their eight-song set was nothing short of spectacular, with the whole Hall singing and dancing along.
As Head of Music Paul Kinsella said, “The Year 12 Band was outstanding, producing a finale that had the Hall jumping and singing along at the top of their lungs!”
More Than Just a Show
What really stood out wasn’t just the music, it was the way students supported one another. Bands cheered from the sidelines, helped each other set up, and celebrated every success. It was a brilliant display of collaboration, resilience and confidence, reminding us all why music is such a powerful part of the Santa Maria experience.
Year 10 student Hannah shared her highlights, “Singing along with my friends and hanging out with them before my performance. And then getting up on stage and seeing all my friends cheer and sing along. It’s a strong community and feels like a big family.”
Until Next Time...
If Rock Your Socks Off is anything to go by, the future of music at Santa Maria is looking very bright. We can’t wait to see what these talented students do next.
Stay tuned for upcoming events, you won’t want to miss a beat!
