Celebrating Visual Art at Santa Maria – Art Day 2026
The Mercy Gallery was buzzing with colour, creativity and plenty of activity as students came together to celebrate Art Day 2026. Across recess and lunch, the space became a place to stop, create and enjoy the Visual Arts in a different way.
Students moved in and out of the gallery, adding their own ideas, trying something new and enjoying the atmosphere with friends. With so much happening in one space, Art Day brought a playful energy to the College.
Creativity in Every Corner
Students had the chance to create in different ways.
Some picked up pencils and brushes for the portrait stations. Others added their ideas to the portrait wall or spent time making bracelets and balloon animals. Around them, face paint, bubbles and the photobooth added even more colour and energy to the space.
That variety allowed students from all years to follow their interests, try something different and simply enjoy creating alongside others.
Year 12 Visual Art Students Set the Scene
For our Year 12 Visual Art students, Art Day carried a little extra meaning.
In their final year at Santa Maria, the day was also a chance to celebrate the years they have spent learning, creating and experimenting in a space that has become so familiar to them. Their imaginative costumes brought plenty of personality to the Mercy Gallery.
After years of sketching ideas, working with colour, developing their skills and making the space their own, they were able to enjoy the day together and celebrate the creativity that has been part of their time at the College.
A Space Where Art is Celebrated
Art Day celebrates the role Visual Arts plays in College life and the creativity that grows in the Mercy Gallery throughout the year.
More than an exhibition space, the gallery is a place where students can experiment, develop ideas and see their work valued. Art Day opened that experience to the wider College community, giving everyone a chance to enjoy the energy and imagination that fill the space.
It was a fitting celebration of the people, ideas and creativity that make the Mercy Gallery such a special part of Santa Maria.
