Weekly Wrap Up – Term 3, Weeks 1 & 2

Year 5 Excursion – Fremantle Prison and the Round House: As part of their History studies, our Year 5 students travelled back in time during their excursion to Fremantle Prison and the Round House. Exploring these significant heritage sites brought their classroom learning to life and deepened their understanding of Western Australia’s early colonial history.

NAIDOC Week: Throughout the week, students participated in a range of meaningful NAIDOC Week activities during Pastoral Care Time, celebrating the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. A highlight was welcoming Aquinas College for a moving cultural dance performance that encouraged reflection, respect and appreciation for the world’s oldest continuing cultures.

Year 10 Reflection Day: Our Year 10 students took part in their annual Reflection Day, centred on the theme Behind the Barcode: Ethics, Empathy and Everyday Choices. Through engaging discussions and activities, students explored the impact of the decisions they make as consumers and considered how empathy and ethical choices can contribute to a more just world.

Explore 8 Program: The first week of Term 3 saw our Year 8 students immersed in the Explore 8 Program. Through hands-on workshops, inspiring guest speakers and dedicated time to develop their individual projects, students were encouraged to think creatively, explore new interests and build valuable future-focused skills.

Women in STEM: Students had the opportunity to connect with professionals from a wide range of STEM industries during an engaging speed networking session. Rotating between tables, they asked thoughtful questions, explored diverse career pathways and gained valuable first-hand insights into the exciting opportunities available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

SMC & Aquinas Assembly: Santa Maria College and Aquinas College came together for a joint assembly featuring an engaging panel discussion on the theme, Respect Regardless. The session sparked meaningful conversations about respect, inclusion and empathy, encouraging students to value and celebrate one another’s differences.

Year 10 First Aid: Our Year 10 REACH students completed a comprehensive first aid course, developing practical skills that could one day help save a life. The training also reinforced the importance of responsibility, confidence and being prepared to support others in times of need.

Cultural Centre Opening: The week concluded with the opening celebrations of our new Cultural Centre, with special evening events and a vibrant Community Day. It was a joyful opportunity for students, families, staff and the wider community to come together and celebrate a space that honours culture, connection and belonging.
