Welcoming Families to Santa Maria – Years 5 & 6 Open Night
There is something special about seeing a school come to life through the eyes of its students. At our annual Years 5 & 6 Open Night, families were invited into the classrooms to experience the learning, creativity and sense of community that shape these important early years at Santa Maria College.
The evening gave families the opportunity to walk through the classrooms, where students’ work from throughout the year was proudly on display. From projects and classroom activities to examples of learning across different subject areas, families could see what students had been working on and the progress they had made.
A Celebration of Learning
Throughout the classrooms, students had the opportunity to share their learning with the people who have supported them along the way. More than simply viewing finished pieces of work, families could hear from students about what they had been learning, the projects they had enjoyed and the skills they had developed.
For our Years 5 & 6 Dean, Joanna Ryan, the evening was an opportunity to reflect on just how far the students have come throughout the year.
“The Years 5 & 6 Open Night was a wonderful opportunity to welcome families into the College and give them a glimpse into the learning, creativity and growth that has taken place throughout the year. It was lovely to see the students proudly share their classrooms, work and achievements with their families.
For me, the evening was a reminder of how much the students have grown, not only academically, but also in their confidence, independence and sense of belonging. Seeing them showcase their hard work and share their learning with their families made the evening particularly special.”
Proudly Sharing Their Classrooms
One of the most meaningful parts of the evening was seeing students take ownership of their learning spaces and proudly show their families what they had achieved.
Years 5 and 6 are an important part of the Santa Maria journey, as students begin to develop greater confidence and independence while building strong connections with their peers, teachers and the wider College community.
Open Night provided a wonderful reflection of their learning and achievements from this term. The excitement with which students shared their work, spoke about their learning and welcomed their families into their classrooms demonstrated how much they have developed throughout the year.
