She’s Someone – Santa Maria & Aquinas Unite for Respect

Santa Maria College students recently had the privilege of attending Aquinas College’s assembly themed ‘She’s Someone’, an inspiring initiative that placed respectful relationships and gender equality at the centre of the conversation.

The assembly, held for Years 9 – 12 students at Aquinas, focused on raising awareness of how attitudes, words, and actions towards women can have a lasting impact. With over 1,000 boys in attendance, the event highlighted the role young men play in creating safer, more respectful communities.

Student Leadership in Action

Led by Aquinas student leaders, the assembly promoted understanding and respect between males and females. A short film created by the student leaders featured Santa Maria students Georgia (Year 10) and Charlotte (Year 11). The video shared powerful messages on the importance of respect and safety for women.

Representing Santa Maria College on the day were Principal Jennifer Oaten, along with our 2026 Head Girl, Chloe, and Deputy Head Girl, Alyssa, who joined Georgia and Charlotte in supporting this important initiative.

Building Partnerships for Change

This event was more than an assembly; it was an opportunity to build stronger connections between Santa Maria College and Aquinas College. By working together, our schools can continue to encourage respectful relationships and challenge harmful stereotypes. Collaboration between our students has the potential to drive real change now and into the future.

We are grateful to Aquinas for not only addressing this important issue but also for inviting Santa Maria students to be active participants in the campaign.

Student Reflections

Chloe, Head Girl Elect:
“I both enjoyed and appreciated the ’She’s Someone’ assembly at Aquinas College. The message that respect and safety are not a privilege is an important topic that was delivered effectively through engaging videos and speakers. Being a guest at this important event allowed me to see the work Aquinas is doing to address the inequalities women face.”

Alyssa, Deputy Head Girl Elect:
“I really enjoyed the Aquinas ‘She’s Someone’ assembly. I felt the message about respecting women was carried throughout the assembly and I found the information very concise and informative. The idea of the film was a very engaging aspect that I feel helped to share the message.”

Georgia, Year 10:
“I am very grateful for the opportunity not only to have been invited to attend the She’s Someone assembly, but also to have been involved in the video campaign. When I was asked if I would be interested in participating in the ‘She’s Someone’ campaign, I immediately said yes, as I felt strongly that it was an important issue that needed to be highlighted and discussed. I believe that the assembly at Aquinas, along with the campaign video, played a fantastic role in taking steps towards raising awareness and driving change on this important topic.”

Charlotte, Year 11:
“Something I have learnt from being a part of this campaign is that safety is not something everyone can take for granted. What feels safe for one person can feel completely unsafe for another. Awareness is the first step to creating real change, making the world a better place.”

A Shared Commitment

We are committed to educating and empowering young women, while working with our wider community to promote respect, equality, and safety for all. The She’s Someone campaign is a reminder that every voice matters and that collaboration between our two schools can spark meaningful change.
