Showcase 2024 – A Celebration of Music
The Santa Maria College community gathered last Friday night for the annual Music Showcase. The Showcase featured performances from our talented bands, choirs, and instrumental ensembles. This year’s event captivated the audience with a stunning display of musical talent and student dedication.
A Night of Diverse Performance
From the rich sounds of the Concert Band to the intricate harmonies of the AcaMarias, the 2024 Music Showcase was an unforgettable experience. 280 performers from 14 musical groups, including all of the Year group choirs, entertained the audience with their talent and skill. Whether it was the youthful energy of the Junior Guitar Ensemble or the polished performances of the Chorales, each group brought something special to the stage.
The musical repertoire was as varied as the ensembles themselves. The night featured selections from classical pieces to contemporary pop hits, Broadway tunes, and popular film soundtracks. Each ensemble’s preparation and hard work were evident, earning them enthusiastic applause from the audience of nearly 500 parents and friends.
Farewell to Our Year 12 Musicians
As with every Music Showcase, this year’s event held special significance for our Year 12 students, who took their final bow as part of the College’s co-curricular Music Program. The departing Year 12 musicians were honoured for their years of dedication and leadership in the program. Each student received a yellow rose, symbolising their journey, and a keepsake to remind them of their time at Santa Maria College.
As Head of Music, Paul Kinsella, noted, “The Year 12s have given so much to the co-curricular over many years and we will be very sorry to see them go. So very ably led by our music Captain, Madison Pino- the girls have been a great example to the younger students and have upheld the level of commitment and tradition that has been built up over many years.”
A Team Effort
The success of the 2024 Music Showcase was a result of the collaborative effort between our students, Music teachers and tutors. Their tireless efforts ensured that every performance ran smoothly and was of the highest standard.
A big thank you to our Music Captain, Madison Pino who also compered the evening.
Thanks also must go to our dedicated Music staff, Head of Music, Paul Kinsella, Music Teacher, Jessica MacLean-Black, Malcolm Cesareo and Administration Assistant, Michelle Hunt along with assisting tutors, Gwyneth Gardiner, Andrew Pearson, Rebecca McGregor, Natalie Ripepi, Taylor Cutts and piano accompanist Bronwen Herholdt.
A Night to Remember
With a mix of excitement, music, and a few tears, the 2024 Music Showcase was a resounding success. It celebrates the talents of our students but also highlights the sense of community and belonging fostered through the College’s Music Program. A sincere thanks to all of the family and friends who came along and supported the event and also encourage the students to continue to strive for excellence in music on a daily basis. We look forward to seeing how our students continue to grow musically and take the stage in the years to come.
