Strive9: Year 9s Having An Impact

Our Year 9s have been introduced to the Enhanced Learning Project, Strive9. Students are working in Homeroom groups to explore issues of social justice. They are to focus on a topic of interest and develop their own social action project. They will then enact their project, assess their success and present their process and outcomes to an audience of staff and parents. It will take time allocated to Year activities in Pastoral Care Time during the remainder of Terms 2 and 3.

The central educational goal is to provide students with a range of skills to assist them to become Active citizens of the global community. It is also an opportunity for the students to:

  • Acquire life-long skills
  • Experience social justice issues first-hand
  • value themselves and those around them
  • utilise their individual gifts and talents
  • make a difference in their world through action to bring about change and understanding.

This is a student-led experience. Homeroom teachers act as guide and mentor to the students.

In Year 9, the College endeavours to promote a passionate interest in social justice and social action in students, through their beliefs, values, attitudes and, most importantly, actions. Strive9 aims to foster a sense of enrichment in students through their experience of social action in a project they select. Their aim is to make a difference for a community group in need or impact an environmental issue they care for passionately in their community.

Social Action Implementation Day

The girls will organise a full day of activities associated with their project, and see their efforts come to fruition on Implementation Day. This will be held in Week 8, Term 3.  It will be the culmination of their collaboration and planning as a Homeroom, and it will be a great experience for them to see the results of all their dedicated work for the benefit of others or an environmental issue.

Presentation to Parents and Peers

All being well with the COVID situation, students will present their Social Action Project to an audience of parents and their peers on an evening in Week 10, Term 3.
