Strong Results at the JIGSSA and IGSSA Cross Country Carnival
Our Santa Maria students showed plenty of grit on Monday 15 June at the JIGSSA and IGSSA Cross Country Carnival at Alderbury Reserve.
It was a special day for our community, with the JIGSSA and IGSSA carnivals hosted together for the very first time. From our Years 5 and 6 runners in the morning to our Years 7 – 12 senior team later in the day, the girls represented Santa Maria with determination, courage and plenty of team spirit.
A Rainy Start And A Strong Response
The morning began with heavy rain, but that did not stop our junior girls. They pushed through the wet conditions with real toughness and heart. Before they left, the senior team and PE teachers formed a guard of honour to cheer on the Years 5 and 6 students and wish them luck.
It was a lovely moment of connection across year levels and a reminder that sport at Santa Maria is about more than results. It is also about showing up for one another.
Celebrating Before And After The Carnival
There was plenty of excitement leading into the carnival. On Friday 12 June, the girls shared a breakfast together to celebrate their selection and wish them well for the event.
After the carnival, the senior team gathered in the Staff Community Room for a wind up with drinks, food and prizes, finishing the day with well earned celebration.
Results To Be Proud Of
A big round of applause to Isabella in Year 6, who came first, and our Year 9 team, who placed second! These are wonderful achievements, but just as impressive was the way all of our runners kept going, supported each other and gave their best in challenging conditions.
It was a fantastic day of cross country, we are so proud of everyone who participated!
