Students Making A Difference
Young Mercies is one of the College’s service groups and Making a Difference is an integral part of this co-curricular group.
Each week, girls, in Years 7 to 11, meet to create and produce sewn articles for the needy in our society, using donated fabric to assist in these endeavours.
The girls have created over 150 small bags for the homeless of Perth, which were then filled with donated personal hygiene products.
Lately, the group has sewn 30 bags for a Perth Catholic school. These bags are used by the students of Our Lady of Lourdes School in Nollamara to carry iPads around the school, to carry their novels for novel study, and in the library.
We really enjoyed making these library bags for the children at Our Lady of Lourdes School and it feels great to see how happy they were to receive them. It was a great experience to be a part of this project and we can’t wait to be part of others. Colette Robertson and Estela Taranto, Year 9
It made me so happy to see the Our Lady of Lourdes students using the library bags we made for them. It’s really inspiring knowing I can make a difference in someone’s everyday life, even if it is a small one. Eydie Spencer, Year 10
