History was made on Thursday night when the Santa Maria College boarders AFL squad took on the Perth College boarder team at Optus Stadium. A lot of pride was on the line in this curtain raiser before the Eagles/Essendon and both teams showed exceptional skills and attack at the footy.
Every six months, four GAP students arrive to work at Santa Maria College. Placed by Letz Live, the students undergo training in Brisbane before coming to begin their time with us.
Last weekend the Years 7 and 8 boarders enjoyed iceskating with all other schools while the Year 9s went roller skating, also with other boarding schools.Â
A large group of boarders will participate in the HBF Run for a Reason this Sunday. Â The girls will wear orange in support of the Leukemia Foundation and in remembrance of former Head of Boarding, Linda Bulloch.
Year 12 student Ellie Lee, has been involved each year, since she started at Santa Maria. She recently had an article about her participation included in the Midwest Times.
The Boarders celebrated the recent royal wedding with a very special wedding reception all of our own. The girls were extremely creative in coming up with costumes to attend the royal wedding and prizes were awarded to the best dressed.Â

Recently, Santa Maria College hosted a Year 12 Boarding Leaders’ dinner to promote camaraderie and networking. Over 90 leaders from 15 boarding colleges throughout Perth gathered in the Recreation Centre to appreciate the view of the Swan River, share drinks and cheese, and engage in conversation and networking with other leaders.
The Boarding Leaders organised a Melbourne Cup Hat Dinner on the evening preceeding the Cup this week. Most of the girls and staff entered into the spirit of the event and winners of the best hats were announced.
The girls in Year 7 were asked to invite a day friend to spend some time in Boarding to experience the life of a Boarder.
On Thursday the last official day for Year 12 students was celebrated at the College. The girls in Boarding dressed in a range of costumes for the start of the day.
African Drumming Circles visited the Boarding School last weekend
The Year 12 boarders were farewelled by their Year 11 boarding sisters on Sunday.
In a huge effort, six of our eight boarding netball teams made it through into the Grand Final. The Junior C4 Team  and the under 17 team were both victorious taking the premiership medal in each division.
During Mercy Day, all of the boarding students wore an orange hair ribbon, which is the colour of the Leukaemia foundation. The girls processed into the McDonald Building together during Mass this morning as a mark of remembrance for Linda Bulloch, Head of Boarding, who passed away twelve months ago.
Christmas came early to boarding this year with a Christmas in July Dinner. Many of the girls enjoyed the opportunity to get dressed up in tinsel and Christmas decorations, as gifts and as Santa Claus and his friends.
Last weekend, Year 11 Boarders from Aquinas and Santa Maria Colleges attended a Leadership Camp at Forest Edge, Waroona together.
We have two new Year 8 students in Boarding this term. We welcome Alex Cole into Sylvester House and Manow Smith into Catherine House. This term we also welcome two new GAP students from South Africa, Palesa Tshesane and Alex Jordaan.
Year 10 students recently attended a river cruise hosted by St. Hilda’s School for Girls, where they got to mingle with students from other boarding schools across Perth.
For St. Patrick’s Day the Boarders celebrated in style, turning the dining room green.
