After a long season of training, with countless sessions of hard work, a selected group of athletes competed in the 2019 IGSSA Athletics competition at the State Athletics Stadium this week.

For the first time in IGSSA history, a Years 9/10 Badminton Tournament was held last Friday night at Methodist Ladies’ College. We had such a great interest in this sport that we had more teams than any other school.

Students Chosen for State Hockey Team

Congratulations to Hannah Carmody Year 7, Scarlett Huston Year 7 and Alicia Tory Year 8 who have been selected in the State Under 13 Hockey team. The girls will be travelling to Hobart in early October.

Athletics Team Ready to Take on IGSSA

The IGSSA Athletics Carnival is approaching fast and the girls are training hard. Last year saw the College beaten by only nine points to Penrhos, which has really spurred the girls on this year. This year’s carnival is on 11 September.

Santa Maria XI Take on Hockey Academy

For the second year, Santa Maria College held a First XI hockey match against the Como Hockey Academy team. The Santa Maria hockey staff chose the students to play in this match based on performance throughout the season, as well as long-running participation in the hockey program.

Victory for the Santa Maria Boarders AFL Team

History was made on Thursday night when the Santa Maria College boarders AFL squad took on the Perth College boarder team at Optus Stadium. A lot of pride was on the line in this curtain raiser before the Eagles/Essendon and both teams showed exceptional skills and attack at the footy.

After a stormy week, the weather was kind to us and we had a wonderful afternoon for the IGSSA Cross Country last Friday. The girls had been training hard since Term 1 and were following a different program this year to increase their speed around the course.
