Year 10 biology students have been monitoring chicks over the last two weeks. The girls are looking at the adaptation of living organisms and have been observing the chicks, weighing and measuring them to see what changes have taken place since they hatched.

Yesterday the Year 10 Brain Stem class visited Murdoch University as part of their Outreach Program. The class were fortunate to attend a presentation by neuroscientist, Sarah Ellington. She outlined her career pathway in neuroscience and explained some of her research projects.
This week, saw students in the Year 10 REACH Program working in industry, to experience the reality of work. Students selected where they would like to be placed.
Yesterday, Year 10 students had the opportunity to hear from a panel of guests, comprising of current and former Santa Maria students. The panel spoke about their experiences in choosing the ACCESS or ATAR pathway. The guests also spoke about how their choice benefited them and some words of advice for the girls about to make their own decision on which pathway to follow.
During the school holidays, 62 Year 9 students and 53 Year 10s visited our nation’s capital, where they visited iconic sites including Commonwealth Parliament, the High Court, the National Gallery and the National Museum.
One of our Year 10 Home Economics classes spent a wonderful morning baking high tea treats for students in another Home Economics class.
The girls had to choose which delicious treats they would like to contribute to the high tea, they needed to ensure they had the correct ingredients and to prepare enough food to cater for the other students.
Some of the delicious homemade treats included were chocolate brownies, caramel slices, spinach and feta pastries, scones with jam and cream and sausage rolls, just to name a few.
