Our Year 9 students recently enjoyed a great evening of ice-skating with the Year 9 Aquinas boys at the Cockburn Ice Arena.
In recent weeks, the Year 9 Marine Science elective class have been working hard on biodiversity showcases and lessons.
This year, each of the students, now in Year 9, used watercolour paints to embellish her own (unique) feather. These feathers were collated and shaped into a set of wings. The Year 9 SRC leaders aptly captioned this artwork with the inscription ‘Together we can fly’.
The Year 9 camp has been a big highlight of the year for the students and staff who attended. The girls have enjoyed the camps, held last week and this week and running alongside the Transition Program.
Year 9 Students have had a busy week completing their Transition Program, designed to prepare students for the move into Year 10 in 2019.
Our five, Year 9 Recreational Studies classes recently visited Rottnest Island for the annual snorkelling excursion.
Our Year 9 Marine Science students headed off to Penguin Island this week, to investigate the effects of human influence on the Shoalwater Marine Park. The girls also looked at the adaptations of dolphins, ospreys, terns and sea lions at the park too
Strive9 is part of the suite of Enhanced Learning Programs at Santa Maria College. It is a social justice project, completed in Homeroom groups over the course of Terms 2 and 3. The girls choose an issue they are passionate about and work towards making a difference in that area. The project culminates with Implementation Day, where the girls go out into the community and put their work into practice.
Last week, Strive9 was launched to Year 9 students. This Enhanced Learning Program is a social justice project that students work on together in their Homerooms over the next two terms.
During the school holidays, 62 Year 9 students and 53 Year 10s visited our nation’s capital, where they visited iconic sites including Commonwealth Parliament, the High Court, the National Gallery and the National Museum.
On Friday 12 May, the Year 9s hosted the Aquinas students for this year’s social event, held here at Santa Maria College.
