The 2026 JIGSSA WA Swimming Carnival

The JIGSSA swim team made the College incredibly proud on Tuesday 31 March at the 2026 JIGSSA WA Swimming Carnival. Our Years 5 and 6 swimmers represented the College with skill, determination and plenty of heart.

Held annually in Term 1, the Junior IGSSA WA Swimming Carnival showcases the talents of Years 4 to 6 swimmers from member schools. At Santa Maria, our Years 5 and 6 students competed against some of the strongest junior swimmers in the association in individual freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly events, as well as freestyle and medley relays.

A Strong Performance from Both Year Groups

Santa Maria had a lot to celebrate at this year’s carnival.

Our Year 5 team finished first place alongside Iona Presentation College with 225 points! A fantastic result that reflected the girls’ hard work, focus and team spirit throughout the carnival.

Our Year 6 team placed fourth place with 203 points! Finishing just behind St Hilda’s, Iona and Methodist Ladies’ College in a very competitive field.

A Proud Moment for Santa Maria

For our Years 5 and 6 students, the Junior IGSSA WA Swimming Carnival is an exciting opportunity to compete at a high level while building friendships and school spirit. It is also a lovely reminder of what can happen when girls are given the chance to challenge themselves in a supportive environment.

We are proud of all our swimmers for the way they represented Santa Maria. To finish equal first in Year 5 with Iona and fourth in Year 6 is a terrific achievement. Even more importantly, they did it with energy, encouragement and genuine team spirit.

A wonderful result, and a very proud day for Santa Maria.
