The Last Post is the bugle call that signified the end of the day’s activities. It is sounded as a final farewell and as a symbol that the duty of the dead is over, their day has drawn to a final close and they can rest in peace.
Following the Last Post a minute of silence is observed. After the minutes silence, the ROUSE is played. The Rouse was a bright, cheerful call to rouse soldiers from their slumber, ready for duty. It symbolises an awakening in a better world for the dead, and also rouses the living back to duty, now their respects have been paid to the memory of their comrades.
