The Rosary Part 2: How to Pray the Rosary

The following guide will show you how easy it is to pray the rosary.

(Hint: Start with one decade first, grow to love this prayer, and then build up to all five decades).

 The Prayers of the Rosary

1. The Apostles creed is the first prayer of the rosary
2. Make the Sign of the Cross and then recite the Apostles Creed.
   By reciting the Apostle’s Creed, we declare our faith in God and reject the devil and all his empty promises.
3. Prayer one Our Father and three Hail Mary’s.
   We pray the three Hail Mary’s for hope, charity and faith.
4. Say the Glory Be to conclude the first section of the rosary.
5. Commence the first decade (mysteries) of the Rosary
   (10 small beads) with the Our Father on the large bead, followed by 10 Hail Mary’s. While reciting the 10 Hail Mary’s, picture each bead as a rose offered to Mary. Alternatively, you may wish to focus on one intention, or the person you are praying for. Visualise yourself giving your request to Mary and her accepting it.
6. Conclude the first decade with the Glory Be and the Fatima prayer.
   Our Lady specifically asked the three children she appeared to at Fatima to recite this prayer.

   You may choose to continue by repeating Steps 5 and 6 four more times to finish the next four decades. Alternatively, you may choose to conclude the prayer the following way.

7. Proceed to the miraculous medal of Mary and recite the Hail Holy Queen.
8. Conclude the Rosary on the crucifix by making the sign of the cross.
