Turning Purple For A Good Cause

The front of the College looked a little different on Thursday. You may have noticed a garland of bras decorating the buildings and a giant Purple Bra Day sign as you drove up the Figure 8. There was a sea of purple everywhere you looked!

It was Santa Maria’s annual Purple Bra Day celebration!

Purple Bra Day supports the West Australian charity Breast Cancer Care WA.

Breast Cancer Care WA provides free-of-charge specialist breast care nursing, counselling, and financial support for those facing a diagnosis of breast cancer. They do not receive government funding, and their services are provided free of charge. This is why the Purple Bra Day fundraising events are so important and allow these critical services to be provided.

Throughout the day, there were various stalls and activities to raise money. Students could dress in purple for a gold coin donation, they could purchase hot chips, lolly bags or a sausage sizzle at recess or lunch, and they could attend the events organised by the Student Leaders.

Year 12 Ball Dress Parade

At recess, the Year 12s ran the annual Ball Dress Parade, which drew a big crowd! The lunchtime event was also popular as students came to watch the staff vs student BRAsketball match. The staff took the victory this time round!

The 2022 Purple Bra Day was very successful. It was great to see the girls getting involved and supporting this fantastic charity. We’ll keep you posted through our social media when we know how much was raised.
