Weekly Wrap Up – Term 1, Week 9
From outdoor camp experiences to creative and reflective learning moments, it has been a full week at Santa Maria College. With the end of Term 1 approaching, there has been a strong sense of energy and purpose across the College.
Weekly Wrap Up Items:
Relay 4 Life: On Friday, our Year 8 and 9 students joined with Aquinas College for a special Relay 4 Life fundraising event. Inspired by Pope Leo’s call for 2026 to be a year of “Building Bridges of Compassion and Hope”, students united in support of those affected by cancer through a series of activities including volleyball, relay races, dance and a moving candlelight walk. The evening was a powerful reminder of the strength of community and the importance of compassion in action.
Year 7 Group 2 Alternate Learning Day: While one half attended camp, the other group engaged in a series of workshops across two days. A highlight was the friendship-focused sessions led by College psychologists, where students explored healthy relationships, personal boundaries and the foundations of positive connections. These experiences supported students in developing self-awareness and strengthening their interpersonal skills.
Year 7 Camp: Set in the natural beauty of Nanga Bush Camp in Dwellingup, students enjoyed an action-packed camp experience. Activities such as rock climbing, raft building, ziplining and low ropes challenged students to step outside their comfort zones, while quieter moments like swimming and movie time allowed for reflection and bonding. For many, camping overnight in the bush was a memorable first experience that fostered independence and resilience.
Year 7 Group 1 Alternate Learning Day: Later in the week, this group participated in their own Alternate Learning Day program. Alongside the friendship workshops facilitated by College psychologists, students explored their creativity through art and cooking sessions. These activities encouraged collaboration, confidence and the joy of learning in new and engaging ways.
Year 6 IGNITE – Bridge Building: Year 6 students demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills through their bridge building challenge in the Year 6 IGNITE program. Working collaboratively, they explored design principles and engineering concepts while strengthening teamwork and communication. The activity highlighted innovation and persistence in a hands-on learning environment.
