Weekly Wrap Up – Term 3, Week 3

Homelessness Day Bake Sale: During Homelessness Week, our College community came together in support of the 2026 theme, Homelessness Action Now, raising awareness of homelessness in Australia and the importance of meaningful change. Our Homelessness Day bake sale raised funds for LifeLink, while our SMC Meal Service continued its important work, with student volunteers preparing and delivering homemade meals into Perth city to offer both nourishment and connection to people experiencing homelessness.

Year 11 Visual Art Workshop: Our Year 11 Visual Art students had the privilege of welcoming acclaimed artist Rachelle Dusting for an exclusive workshop. Renowned for her realistic portrait oil paintings, Rachelle shared insights into her creative process and techniques before students put their learning into practice by creating impressive portraits of their own.

Achievers Lunch: Students from Years 7–12 were recognised at our Achievers Lunch, celebrating their outstanding Semester 1 results. It was a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the dedication, perseverance and commitment to excellence demonstrated by students across the College.

Year 9 Strive9 Pitches: This week marked the beginning of our Strive9 pitches, with Year 9 students presenting their chosen charities and making a compelling case for why these organisations deserve support. Through the experience, students are strengthening their research, communication and public speaking skills while developing a deeper understanding of service, advocacy and the important contribution charities make to our communities.

Eco Sisters Tree Planting: Our Eco Sisters co-curricular group rolled up their sleeves for a tree planting session on the College oval, building on the wonderful work they began last year. Their efforts are helping to create a greener College environment while demonstrating the positive impact of environmental stewardship and collective action.

Art Day: We finished the week with a colourful celebration of creativity as the Mercy Gallery came alive for Art Day. Across recess and lunch, students enjoyed bubbles, face painting, bracelet making, balloon animals and flowers, portrait painting and drawing, and a photobooth, while our Year 12 Visual Art students added to the fun with wonderfully creative costumes as they celebrated their final Art Day at Santa Maria.
