Welcome to Western Australia!
Around 30 people, who have recently settled into Australia, gathered together at a Welcome Picnic last weekend. Santa Maria students from the Seeds of Justice leadership group attended the picnic run by the St Vincent de Paul Society.
The girls shared lunch with the families and then facilitated games and activities such as Twister, Uno and painting. Our girls were joined by students from Aranmore Catholic College and Sacred Heart College, and participated in group dances such as the macarena, YMCA and many more. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
Year 9 student, Abby Young said, “I loved attending the Welcome to WA Refugee Picnic on Sunday. I had so much fun painting, playing games and dancing with the kids. It was lovely to see how grateful the families were when we gave them toys and hampers with Australian food. It is wonderful that Vinnies organised such a welcoming event.
What A Term! So Many Opportunities – Jennifer Oaten
As I look back on the past nine weeks, I am so grateful for who we are as a community and what we have achieved. Through the dedication of our staff and the enthusiasm of our students, we have established new connections, immersed ourselves in opportunities and worked through challenges.
