Welcoming Our Grandparents and Grandfriends
There is something truly special about the connection between children and their grandparents. It is a bond that carries wisdom, patience, and unconditional love. This morning, we were delighted to welcome the grandparents and grandfriends of our Year 6 students for a joyful and heartfelt celebration.
The occasion began in the most fitting way with a special Liturgy held in our beautifully refurbished College Chapel. This was the first time the Chapel had been opened since the completion of its recent refurbishment, making the moment even more meaningful.

Bringing Family & School Life Together
For many students, this morning was a rare and treasured opportunity to bring together school life and family life. As Lucy from 6.8 shared, “I loved having all my grandparents here. Two of my grandparents only speak Spanish, so I had to translate my work for them so they could understand. I liked having morning tea with them.”
Classroom Connections Across Generations
The morning concluded with a visit to the Year 6 classrooms. Here, students proudly shared their work and took part in games with their guests. Their enthusiasm was infectious. There was an absolute joy in the air as our young learners explained their projects and delighted in the opportunity to connect generations through learning. Ivy, from 6.8, reflected, “My grandparents are Macedonian, and it was really nice to get to share all my work with them. In the Liturgy, I shared how grateful I am that they come and support me when I do my Macedonian dancing performances.”

Celebrating Connection, Gratitude and Mercy Values
Grandparents and Grandfriends Morning reminds us of the strength and beauty of community. It is an opportunity to pause and appreciate the relationships that shape our students’ lives. We thank our visitors for joining us and for the care and support they give, not just today but every day.

It was a privilege to open our hearts, our classrooms, and our Chapel to the people who have helped raise the next generation of Mercy women.
