Western Force Players Visit Santa Maria

Our Years 10 and 11 PE Studies students hit the oval today for an action-packed Touch Rugby Clinic led by representatives from Rugby WA and Western Force players and Head Coach Dylan Parsons, What a session it turned out to be!

From the very start, the energy was high. Students jumped straight into a series of drills designed to sharpen game sense, improve ball handling, and develop quick decision-making under pressure. The Western Force players, including several international athletes, were brilliant, offering clear guidance, expert tips, and plenty of encouragement along the way.

It was especially exciting for students to see a familiar face among the elite players: our very own teacher, Hannah Palelei, who is not only a valued member of our staff but also an international rugby player. Training alongside Hannah added a special sense of pride and inspiration for the girls.

One of the standout moments was watching the students put their learning into action during the modified games. It didn’t take long for confidence to grow, and soon the oval was buzzing with teamwork, strategy, and a fair bit of friendly competition.

Beyond building skills, the clinic offered a fantastic chance for our PES students to work together, communicate effectively, and challenge themselves physically. The Western Force players were impressed not only with the girls’ enthusiasm but also with their willingness to push outside their comfort zones and apply new techniques.

A huge thank you to Rugby WA and the Western Force for bringing their expertise, energy and international experience to Santa Maria College. Our students walked away with new skills, new confidence and, judging by the smiles, a real sense of accomplishment.

We can’t wait to see how they build on this experience as they step into their PE courses in 2026!
