Year 10 Social with Aquinas Brings Confidence & Connection

There is something special about getting dressed up, stepping onto a dance floor, and sharing a laugh with someone new. The Year 10 Social with Aquinas College was one of those moments. With music, movement and a touch of nervous energy, students embraced the opportunity to try something new, share a dance, and connect beyond their usual circles.

From Dance Lessons to the Dance Floor

In the weeks prior, students participated in two ballroom dancing lessons with their peers from Aquinas to help them prepare. For many, it was something completely new. There were a few awkward steps, plenty of laughter, and a growing confidence as they practised together. These sessions were not just about dancing; they helped build resilience, teamwork, and a readiness to embrace the unfamiliar.

As Dean of Students, Year 10, Mat Puljiz reflected, “In an age where so much interaction happens online, it was refreshing and inspiring to see our students come together face-to-face, sharing laughter, learning something new and building friendships that go beyond the screen.”

A Partnership That Matters

What made the evening even more memorable was the enthusiasm and warmth brought by the Aquinas students and staff. There was a wonderful sense of mutual respect and good humour, which set the tone for a relaxed, joyful event.

Year 10 Student, Alicia, captured the night perfectly in her words:

“This year’s social with Aquinas was a night full of smiles, fun, and positive energy. It was such an amazing experience trying something new, learning ballroom dancing while having fun with friends, and meeting new people.” She said, “I really enjoyed the dance lessons leading up to the social, giving us a chance to learn the steps and bring it all together on a night we will never forget.”

Confidence, Connection and Growth

Events like these in our students’ development, are not only for building friendships, but also for growing confidence and the courage to try something different.

We are proud of our Year 10s for the way they embraced the evening, and we look forward to creating more experiences that help our students connect, grow and celebrate together.
