Year 11s – Celebrating Father–Daughter Connections
Despite the winter weather, nothing could dampen the energy and excitement at this year’s Year 11 Father–Daughter event.
Over 170 students and their fathers or significant male mentors joined us for an afternoon of fun and connection at Fremantle’s Esplanade Park, followed by dinner at Bathers Beach House. It was a time to pause, connect, and celebrate the important role these relationships play in a young woman’s journey.
The Amazing Race (With a Santa Maria Twist)
The evening kicked off with a lively scavenger hunt led by Adventure Quest, where teams of dads and daughters tackled challenges across the Esplanade. Phones in hand and competitive spirits high, the girls and their guests raced through clues and cheered one another on.
Anais, a Year 11 student, said, “The Amazing Race, where teams competed throughout Freo, was a highlight of the evening. It generated a lot of laughter, teamwork, and excitement.”
Year 11 dad Johny agreed: “The Amazing Race was a fun way to team up and have a few laughs. After the race, we grabbed some food and enjoyed the music from the DJ. Overall, a nice night to spend with my daughter.”

A Night to Remember at Bathers
Once the race wrapped up, the group moved down to Bathers Beach House for dinner, dancing, and connection. Although the sky remained overcast, spirits stayed high as guests shared stories, smiles and more than a few dance moves.
Peter Hanbidge, Dean of Year 11, summed it up beautifully:
“What a brilliant evening at Bathers Beach for our Father–Daughter event. From the scavenger hunt to the dancing, it was great to see dads and daughters sharing smiles, teamwork.”
Year 11 student Nitya echoed the joy of the evening saying, “The DJ played great songs, which we all danced to, it was really fun, creating lasting, exciting memories together.”
Louie, a Year 11 dad, reflected, “I truly appreciated the opportunity to connect with my daughter and engage with the school community. This experience has created lasting memories. Thank you for hosting such a well-organised evening.”

Looking Ahead
As our Year 11s build towards their final years at Santa Maria, nights like this remind us that connection matters. Events like the Father–Daughter Evening give our students the chance to reflect on who’s walking alongside them, not just academically, but personally, socially and spiritually.
