Year 11s Jump Into Year 12 Courses

The Class of 2022 are wearing their new red hatbands and their red jumpers. They have formally taken over student leadership of the College and now it is time to get down to the business of being Year 12s! The girls began their Year 12 courses today with their new teachers and in their new classrooms.

Santa Maria has had great success with this model of beginning Year 12 courses in Term 4. It allows the girls to build relationships with their new teachers and become familiar with course content, thus removing some of the pressure from the beginning of 2022.

Girls will have done at least one assessment piece for each Year 12 subject before the Christmas holidays. It is a great headstart. It also allows them the opportunity to read set novels and texts so they begin the year thoroughly prepared.

Students in the ACCESS pathway are starting their new certificate courses, which means they will be experiencing their first day at TAFE or their alternative Registered Training Organisation. Some will naturally find this daunting, however, we know they have the skills and support to face this exciting challenge.

To help with the transition from Year 11 to Year 12, each student is meeting with a course counsellor to discuss the year that was. They will discuss their strengths, their challenges and determine some strategies to further improve their learning processes and results in Year 12. This is a very useful process for the girls and allows time for reflection and coaching.
