Year 12 Music Recital – Celebrating Our Graduates

Music has the power to bring people together, to inspire, and to create lasting memories. Our Year 12 Music students embodied all of this at their final recital this week, sharing their talent and passion with guests. Alongside their moving solo performances, the audience was treated to ensemble numbers that showcased the unity and spirit of the Class of 2025.

Ensemble Performances

The evening opened with the Class Band performing Valerie by Amy Winehouse, setting a lively tone for the night. The Class Choir followed with a touching rendition of A Million Dreams by Pasek & Paul, reminding us of the hopes and aspirations carried by our graduating students. To close, the Class Band lifted the audience once more with a joyful performance of I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor, leaving everyone smiling and celebrating the resilience and spirit of the group.

Tess, Katarina and Gabriella

From her first nervous trumpet notes in Year 5 to confidently performing Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto (3rd Movement) by Joseph Haydn, Tess has shown perseverance and joy in every performance. She leaves behind a legacy of teamwork, passion, and a love for music that will stay with her always.

Katarina

For Katarina, the Music Department has been a second home for eight years. From early morning rehearsals to unforgettable music camps, she has treasured the friendships, lessons, and joy found in every moment. Her performance of Allegro non-Troppo by Wilhelm Popp reflected both her skill and her deep appreciation of music.

Gabriella

Gabriella found joy in the collaborative spirit of Music, where rehearsals often turned into impromptu choir sessions. She loved singing alongside classmates, and at the recital, her performance of Smooth Operator by Sade showcased her creativity and confidence.

Lucia, Tess and Annabel

Lucia

Lucia began her musical journey in choir and soon discovered a love for drumming. Whether performing at Rock Ya Socks Off or preparing for Valedictory, she found the Music Department to be a comforting, joyful place. At the recital, she performed Roxanne by Sting, a piece that captured her passion for rhythm and ensemble playing.

Tess

Joining the class in Year 11, Tess quickly found her place as a vocalist. She discovered confidence, grew musically, and formed strong friendships. Her performance of Burn from Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda reflected her growth as both a singer and performer, and was a meaningful part of the evening.

Annabel

Annabel’s love of singing began with the Australian Girls Choir and flourished at Santa Maria. From Year 7 choir to Concert Band and AcaMarias, she has grown as a musician and formed lifelong friendships. At the recital, she gave a heartfelt performance of River by Joni Mitchell, a fitting reflection of her musical journey.

Margaux, Emily and Amelia

Margaux’s time in Music has been filled with growth, friendship, and gratitude. She treasures early mornings with orchestra and choir, as well as the chance to re-join Music in Year 11. Her performance of Hora Hatikvah by George Perlman highlighted her dedication and musical development.

Emily

Emily’s devotion to music began with the trumpet, but her true passion was found in the trombone. Inspired by teachers and peers, she discovered a love that endures through every challenge. She demonstrated this through her performance of Trombonology by Tom Dorsey, which captured her energy and commitment.

Amelia

Amelia’s love for music began at age three with the flute, and later grew into a deep passion for guitar. From timid beginnings to confidently performing with her peers, she has developed into a strong musician. Her performance of Alive by Pearl Jam was an expression of her energy and joy on stage.

Amy and Amelia

Amy

Arriving as a boarder in Year 8, Amy found her second home in the Music Department. From the shock of discovering multiple choirs to making lifelong friends, she has thrived in this musical community. At the recital, she performed Somewhere Only We Know by Keane, a piece that carried personal meaning and warmth.

Amelia

For Amelia, singing has been a lifelong passion. Joining choir in Year 7 gave her confidence and countless opportunities to perform. She has grown from a nervous singer to a confident performer, always uplifted by the bonds within her class. Her rendition of Gone Under by Snarky Puppy and Shayna Steele was a strong and soulful close to her high school music journey.

The recital showcased the extraordinary musical talent of our Year 12s while celebrateing the friendships, dedication, and personal growth that music fosters. As Head of Music, Paul Kinsella, reflected: “I feel very privileged to have worked with you all over the years and will miss your cohesive energy, versatile talents and collective sense of humour… I am most grateful for your generosity of spirit and active commitment to the Mercy ethos.”
