Year 5 at Santa Maria College
The right start makes all the difference.
Discover why more families are choosing to begin their Santa Maria journey in Year 5.
Girls in Years 5 are at a unique stage of learning and personal growth. At Santa Maria College, we have created a learning environment where they are supported, stretched, and truly known. For many families, joining in Year 5 is one of the best decisions they make.
Why start in Year 5?
Smooth transition to high school
Girls feel confident and connected by the time they reach Year 7, already familiar with the campus, staff and routines.
Specialist teachers and facilities
What sets our Year 5 program apart is the exceptional learning experience. Students are taught by specialist teachers in subjects such as Languages, Music, Drama, Art, Physical Education and Health, with access to the same high-quality senior school facilities used by older students, such as the theatre, art gallery and music studios, as well as our purpose-built Superlab for Science.
Pastoral care and wellbeing
Our pastoral care program is central to the Year 5 experience and goes far beyond friendships and wellbeing. It is built on strong relationships and a deep understanding of each girl’s social, emotional and spiritual development.
Girls are supported by their classroom teachers, specialist staff, Dean of Years 5 and 6, and wider College wellbeing team. Weekly programs include social-emotional learning, values education and early leadership development, all grounded in the Mercy tradition.
We aim to create an environment where every girl feels safe, valued and known — giving her the confidence to learn, grow and thrive.
Vibrant co-curricular program
From choir and drama to science clubs, sport, and service initiatives, our co-curricular program helps girls discover their interests, build confidence and connect with like-minded peers.
