Year 5 Students Make Their Own Robots
The Year 5s have been learning about 3D shapes and how to make nets. Their challenge was to create a robot from 3D shapes they had made themselves.
The girls were given the option of using printed nets, which they then put together, or drawing their own nets by hand. Some students even went as far as drawing octagonal and hexagonal prisms using protractors!
We have some very creative robots ranging from unicorns and cats to long-legged robots in jumpsuits.
It was hard to start making the nets, but it got easier as you went. The challenging part was getting all the nets the right sizes. I had to use a ruler and make sure my measurements were correct. I’m happy with my robot because I think I used a good variety of shapes and it’s a really cute unicorn. Emily Hancock, 5.5
My robot is called Billy and he is 24cm tall and 15cm wide. I used cubes, pyramids, hexagonal prisms and lots of cylinders! I really like my robot’s face because it looks really cute. 3D shapes are not as easy to make as you think they are, but it was really fun to try. Mila Vlahov 5.4
