Year 6 Students Showcase their Skills in Epic Cricket Gala Showdown!
This week, the Year 6 students courageously faced the sweltering heat as they proudly exhibited the cricket skills they’ve honed throughout Term 4 at the Cricket Gala. Over the course of the term, these students actively participated in a comprehensive cricket program, culminating in a spirited carnival where they showcased their abilities against other House groups. They were even indulged with the sprinkler, a refreshing attempt to cool them down from the heat.Â
Some of the Year 6 students shared their favourite part of the day below:Â
During the cricket season, which took place this term, the Year 6 students had the opportunity to participate in both house and class cricket. We were introduced to a variety of new and exciting cricket skills, such as stances, bowling techniques, and key terminology. I found batting to be the most exhilarating aspect of the experience, as I enjoy being a team player and contributing to my team’s success. Although our team, O’Donnell, has yet to win a game, I always remain enthusiastic and strive to do my best. Overall, participating in cricket this term has been an amazing and enjoyable experience. – Annie SmytheÂ
Every week, we would learn a new skill to work on so we could improve our cricket abilities. We got to do fun activities, including cricket-baseball, throwing and catching games, knocking down the wickets and many other games to help us get better. The cricket gala day was so fun because everyone got a chance at everything. In every lesson, we improved our skills, and we tried our best whether it was batting, bowling or fielding. We got to joke around and have fun while enjoying a game of cricket with our friends. Even if you got a wide or you got out, everyone would still cheer you on no matter what happens. My favourite part of the day was spending time in the pool with my friends and getting refreshed after a hot and close game! – Sophie Goes
Over the past term, we have been learning to play the great game of cricket. Having never played it before, I have learnt so many new skills and enjoyed every minute. Instructors from the WACA came to help us improve in all areas of cricket, such as bowling with a straight arm, which was difficult to master, but by the end of the term, the teacher helped us improve. We also learned the correct techniques for batting and fielding. Overall, cricket is a very enjoyable sport. My favourite was batting with a partner and having to race back to the wickets quickly. – Isabella DanielÂ
We commend all the girls for their outstanding participation, showcasing resilience and determination, especially in the face of the oppressive heat. Congratulations to everyone who played a part; it was a truly exhilarating event!
