Year 6s Bring the Energy to the Summer Games

Year 6 students swapped their usual school day for one filled with fresh air, laughter and a bit of healthy competition. The annual Summer Games, is an event that brings together Catholic primary schools for a full day of sport, fun and new connections.

All In, All Smiles

From the moment they arrived, our girls were ready to jump in. Whether it was water polo, cricket, AFL or tee ball, they gave it their all. There were moments of pure determination and others that had everyone in fits of laughter, sometimes both at once.

One student shared, “A highlight of mine was getting to play a new and interesting sport and scoring a goal.” Seran

Win or lose, the girls showed great spirit and a willingness to just have a go.

Meeting New People

The day was about building connections. Teaming up with students from other schools gave our Year 6s the chance to step outside their usual friendship circles. And they embraced it with enthusiasm.

“I did water polo and really enjoyed playing against the other schools. We learned how to work in a team.” Joanne

By lunch break, groups of students were chatting, sharing snacks and swapping stories like they had known each other for ages.

Small Moments of Leadership

As the eldest in the Junior Years, our Year 6 students are already showing signs of the leaders they’re becoming. Throughout the day, there were quiet moments of encouragement, helpful hands offered without being asked, and plenty of positive energy shared.

You didn’t have to look far to find someone lifting a teammate or showing kindness to someone new.

A Day to Remember

We’re so proud of how our girls represented Santa Maria College. Their confidence, teamwork and sense of fun shone throughout the day. A huge thank you goes to our staff and parent helpers who made everything run smoothly, and of course, to the students for throwing themselves into the experience with such heart.

It’s safe to say this year’s Summer Games wasn’t only about sport. It was also about courage, connection and community. And our Year 6 girls brought all three in spades.
