Year 7 Make & Create: Masks
- May 6, 2021

Make and Create is a Year 7 Visual Arts elective course for students who are creative and innovative. It is an introductory course to a range of design principles. The course introduces students to the fundamentals of design. The girls work on different design projects in areas such as fashion, costume, jewellery, and graphics.
This term, the girls have been making masks inspired by Lithuanian artist Stasys Eidrigevičius. After studying his work, the girls created their masks using sticks and other objects found on the school grounds. They applied paint to a paper mache surface. Then they had to work cooperatively in small groups to create a short presentation piece to showcase their masks. This included the use of music, costume, and movement.

Here’s what some of the girls had to say about the project:
“I enjoyed painting the mask, using all the different shades and blending them together. I can’t think of anything I didn’t enjoy about the task!” Beth Creasy
“I really enjoyed making the mask and even though it was an assessment it was extremely exciting and I loved making the dance.” Olivia Mirco
“I loved doing this project so much. I could be creative and have fun with it. I liked painting and creating my headpiece!” Bailey Curtis
