Year 9 Frayne’s Call to End Period Poverty

For many girls, this is their reality. The taboo around menstruation also continues to be a problem, with many girls too embarrassed to ask for help.

The Strive9 Enhanced Learning Program asks students in their Homeroom groups to identify an issue in society and develop a plan to help.

The Year 9 Frayne Homeroom is tackling period poverty and asking for donations of sanitary items. The products collected will be donated to Share the Dignity, an Australian charity supporting women and girls. Their aim, to end period poverty in Australia. Share the Dignity supports homeless women, those fleeing domestic abuse or anyone just doing it tough by collecting sanitary items and distributing them to charities across Australia.

If you can help and donate some sanitary items, the girls would be most grateful. Donations can be left at the College Reception. 

There is another part to the Year 9 Frayne’s project, and this is the development of a petition that will be tabled in parliament in September by Hannah Beazley.  Hannah has been mentoring the girls through the development of the petition. The petition asks the Western Australian Government to provide free sanitary products to all Western Australian State schools.
