Years 5 & 6 Awards Morning 2024

Years 5 & 6 Awards Morning 2024: Celebrating Growth, Perseverance, and Individuality

This morning, the Santa Maria College community came together to honour the achievements of our Years 5 and 6 students at the 2024 Awards Morning. The event was a celebration of academic success and creativity, highlighting the unique talents and growth of our youngest students.

An Inspiring Message from Our Principal

Principal Jennifer Oaten gave a powerful and uplifting speech inspired by the story of Gerald the Giraffe. Gerald, a giraffe told he couldn’t dance, found his rhythm and amazed the jungle with his unique moves. Jennifer encouraged students to embrace their individuality, reminding them: “We all can dance when we find music that we love.”

Her message resonated with students and families, emphasising the importance of perseverance and the value of celebrating what makes each person unique.

A Showcase of Talent

The Awards Morning was brought to life with performances, showcasing the creativity and dedication of our students. The Year 5 Beginner Band, Junior Guitar Ensemble, Years 5 & 6 Choir and a special Years 5 & 6 dance performance added a burst of energy and flair to the morning and highlighted the students’ enthusiasm and commitment. These performances were a testament to the diverse strengths of our Years 5 and 6 cohort.

Recognising Excellence and Effort

The heart of the Awards Morning was the recognition of our Years 5 & 6 award winners, who were celebrated for their hard work, resilience, and dedication throughout 2024. These awards not only highlight academic excellence but also acknowledge personal growth and contributions to the College community. Their achievements remind us that success is not solely about grades but also about character, perseverance, and a willingness to grow. These moments of recognition are a powerful way to encourage all students to strive for their personal best.

Congratulations to all our award recipients and performers. As Jennifer Oaten so beautifully reminded us: “Go out there, find your music, and dance your own dance.”

We look forward to seeing our students continue to embrace their individuality and achieve great things in the years ahead.
