Years 5 & 6 Cross Country Season A Wrap

What a year it’s been! Our coaches had the privilege of working with an enthusiastic group of Year 5 and 6 students who showed tremendous promise in cross country running. Training kicked off at the start of Term 3, with students committed to early morning sessions every Tuesday and Thursday. Whether it was tackling hill runs around the school, intervals on the oval, or time trials at the foreshore, our runners embraced every challenge. And when the weather wasn’t on their side, they moved indoors to the Fitness Centre to keep the momentum going.

This year, poor weather conditions unfortunately meant that the runners missed out on the SSWA Cross Country event in Week 3. As a result, for many of our students, the JIGGSA Cross Country on Tuesday, was their very first experience competing in a large interschool event. And what a debut it was! Each runner gave their all, showing grit and determination throughout the race. We couldn’t have been more proud!

Both our Years 5 and 6 runners tackled the 2.5km course with energy and enthusiasm. Despite the windy conditions, they stayed focused and pushed through. The Year 5 team secured 6th place, and our Year 6 team achieved an outstanding 3rd place. These results are a testament to their hard work, especially as several runners were absent due to illness and injury.

Coaches Taryn Kalat, Emma Wood, and Anita Sprigg would like to thank the students for their commitment and effort. Cross country running is not just about fitness – it builds resilience, perseverance, and character. The coaches were honoured to witness the growth of these young athletes throughout the season and look forward to building on these results next year!

Congratulations, Girls!
