Years 5 & 6 Run with Heart at JIGSSA Cross Country

Excitement was in the air from the moment our Years 5 and 6 girls stepped off the bus at Alderbury Reserve. You could feel the nerves, the energy… and a quiet confidence. After weeks of training, they were ready.

The JIGSSA Cross Country Carnival was the result of two terms of early mornings, muddy shoes and plenty of determination. And when it came time to compete, our students gave it everything.

Teamwork on Track

Training for cross country takes commitment. Many of our girls have been showing up, rain or shine, to improve their fitness and build their endurance, not just for JIGSSA, but also for the SSWA competitions. That effort really showed on race day.

It was heartening to see teammates cheer each other on, support nervous friends and celebrate every finish, no matter the placing.

Year 5s Take the Trophy

The Year 5 team was unstoppable, taking1st place overall! Isabella (5.5) led the way with an impressive 2nd-place finish, and three other Santa Maria runners joined her in the top 10. Their strong, consistent effort made all the difference.

Year 6 Show Strength

Our Year 6 team brought their own brand of grit and heart to the day, finishing 4th overall. Claudia (6.1) ran a smart race to secure 7th place, and the whole team dug deep to keep pushing right to the end.

Mentors Who Make a Difference

Two Year 11 students, Lenna and Chloe, have coached and encouraged the squad this season. Their leadership, hard work and support played a big part in building the skills and confidence of our younger students. They have been great role models in every sense.

More Than a Finish Line

Cross country is one of those events where the real victories happen long before the race begins. They happen in the way students show up, try again, support each other and grow along the way.

We are so proud of all our Years 5 and 6 students. Your effort, attitude and team spirit were a joy to watch, and a true reflection of our Santa Maria values in action.
