Years 7 – 11 Awards Evening 2024

At Santa Maria College, we are dedicated to empowering young women to reach their full potential and make a positive impact on the world. On Monday night, we came together to celebrate students from Years 7–11 who have shown exceptional commitment to their studies and to the College throughout 2024.

Small Actions, Big Changes

The Awards Night highlighted the theme “The Butterfly Effect: Small Actions, Big Changes”, emphasising how small actions can lead to extraordinary transformations. Principal Jennifer Oaten inspired the audience with stories of impactful individuals like Rosa Parks, Sally Ride, and Malala Yousafzai, demonstrating how seemingly minor decisions can ripple outward to create monumental change.

Jennifer emphasised, “Your small actions can ripple outward, creating waves of change that can transform your life, school, community, and even the world.” She also encouraged students to consider the ripple effect of their choices, using fast fashion as an example: “Imagine if each person here inspired just three others to rethink their purchases and choose not to support fast fashion brands. That one decision could start a ripple effect that reaches across communities and countries.”

Recognising Student Achievement

Our special awards recognise students for their dedication to all aspects of College life, whether in academics, sports, arts, or service. These awards reflect the College’s commitment to fostering kindness, sustainability, and diversity. Jennifer challenged all students to embrace these principles, reminding them that every interaction and choice matters.

The evening not only celebrated the outstanding achievements of our students but also served as a call to action for everyone to be the “butterflies” whose small actions help create a better school, community, and world.

Santa Maria College is located in Attadale in Western Australia, 16 km from the Perth CBD. We offer a Catholic education for girls in Years 5 – 12 and have 1300 students, including 152 boarders.
