Years 8 & 9 Relay for Life
Cancer has unfortunately touched the lives of many people in our community. To raise awareness and funds to help this important cause, the Years 8 and 9 students recently joined Aquinas College in a Relay for Life fundraising social.
The students enjoyed socialising with the Aquinas boys while walking or running the track throughout the evening. The Year 8s also participated in a volleyball competition, while the Year 9 Homerooms taught their Aquinas counterparts a dance, concluding in an entertaining dance-off competition! There was also a healthy degree of friendly rivalry between Houses in a 250m relay.
Thanks go to our Year 11 leaders who supported and encouraged our students on the evening, and of course, to our Years 8 and 9 Homeroom Teachers. Sincere thanks to Aquinas College for hosting the event on their beautiful Memorial Oval.
Perhaps the most poignant moment was at the end of the evening when the students paused in prayerful silence remembering all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. Each student was issued a candle and commenced a final lap of the oval. The beautiful candlelit track signified a sense of hope for the future.
It was a great way to socialise with the Aquinas boys in a positive environment, raising money for a very important cause and getting some exercise too! I personally would love to participate in another Relay for Life social event next year as I think it is a great opportunity and I had so much fun this year. Adria Damjanovic, Year 8
I really enjoyed participating in the 6 x 250m relay with my Homeroom, and the Reflection at the end where we walked around the oval with just the candlelight was significant for me as I thought of a family member who had passed away due to cancer a few years ago. Olivia Dowling, Year 8
It was a really fun event, and it was a great way to socialise and meet new people. The way the whole thing ran so smoothly was awesome and it was great having the Year 11 volunteers help run the night. Olivia Creek, Year 8
